The Meteor

South Congress has an overwhelming number of restaurants and bars on the mile and a half stretch south of the Colorado River. The Meteor is an all day cafe, bottle shop, and bike shop (pedals, not engines) that’s located in an amazing mid century building that sits just past the noise and commotion of the tourist heavy South Congress strip. The Meteor was founded in 2019 by two business partners and cyclists. One a former attorney and the other, the founder of Chicago’s Intelligentsia coffee. The motto of the well designed space is Espresso|Champagne|Chain Lube, and all three of those things are well represented and done right. They have great coffee program provided by Intelligentsia, one of the better bottle shops in the city for natural wine, and a bike shop attached that sponsors three elite-level racing teams. They also crank out some fantastic food, including in house baked goods and Roman-style pizza.  For a coffee and pastry to start your day, a place to sit down and do some work and have a light bite, or if you’re looking to grab a great bottle of wine for a dinner party, The Meteor is a great option in south Austin.
